Teams Status
Barbados Royals
Barbados Royals may not be at the bottom of the CPL points table – they are second last – but they definitely are the side with the worst record, having lost the most numbers of games (3) and won the least (just one) so far.
They started their campaign with back-to-back defeats to St Kitts and Trinbago before getting off the mark with a win over Jamaica Tallawahs but then lost to the same opposition in the reverse fixture.
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, Barbados’ batting is their main problem, which has been exacerbated by poor pitches and conditions unfavourable for run scoring.
We’ve said this before but their batting lineup is arguably the lightest in the league. Their best batsmen so far have been Glenn Philipps and the young Azam Khan, who comes in at number six, by the time most of the (self-inflicted) damage is already done.
Time is now for the like of Johnson Charles and Shai Hope to deliver.
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots are the form team of CPL 2021 and also the runaway leaders. The sole hosts for the tournament have won each of their first four matches and all by comfortable margins.
While the rest of the CPL is having nightmares in poor batting conditions, it appears as if the Patriots have been operating on an entirely different surface.
Their openers, Evin Lewis in particular, are getting runs and their number five and six pairing of Sherfane Rutherford and Fabian Allen also seem in brilliant touch.
The rest of the team has been playing so well that the continued failure of Asif Ali has not not bothered them — yet.
If they can continue their momentum, this could be the year they win their first even CPL title.
