Teams Status
Barbados Royals
Barbados Royals are dead last on the CPL 2021 points table, having won just two of their seven matches so far. It means that pretty much every match is a do or die fixture for them. If they lose this, they would almost have no chance of progressing.
Thankfully, they have shown some life of late. In their last match, they defeated Guyana Amazon Warriors by 45 runs and kept their season alive.
The win was made possible, thanks to contributions from everywhere. The 185-run total proved too steep for Guyana as Barbados’ bowling, too, worked as a unit, with each of their six bowlers at least grabbing one wicket.
Will that result turn their season around? That’s too early to say but the signs we saw in the last match were positive indeed.
Trinbago Knight Riders
Trinbago have lost more than they’d have liked this season but they have still won enough to sit second on the points table behind only St Kitts and Nevis. A win tonight would elevate them above the Patriots in the top spot, where they were for the entirety of last year’s title winning campaign.
The Knight Riders have won three of their last four matches and look to be peaking at the right time. Even the one they lost was decided via a one-over eliminator.
In their last game, which was a big win over Jamaica Tallawahs, Trinbago too got contributions from multiple players. All six of their batters who batted scored in double figures. Even the extras amounted to 18.
The bowling unit had a prominent hero, though, in the form of Ali Khan, who bowled one of the spells of the tournament, picking up four wickets for just six runs in three overs.
