Indian Rummy

Indian rummy

Indian Rummy, as the name suggests, is a classic Indian card game. It consists of 13 cards that include wild cards and wild Jokers. This card game is seen as one of the most interesting variants of Rummy. However, the rules of the game are not as complicated and easy to follow.

Rummy strategies

Rummy is a game where the basic play is to form valid sets and sequences. The results of this game depend strictly on the skills of the player, and probability plays no role in it. The game can be won if proper calculation and analysis of the opponent’s cards are done. The game requires a strict focus on the cards that the opponent discards. Players are all the more attracted to this game because of its quick change. While most card games are dependent on factors like luck, Rummy offers a fair and square chance of winning to the players with skills. With smart strategies, winning comes easy in this game

Minimum Sequences Required

A sequence refers to a series of cards. In Rummy, players must form at least two sequences.

Maximum Number of Sequences

The terms in Rummy ask players to make a maximum of 4 sequences. However, players can simply make fewer but longer sequences to win.

Maximum Number of Sets

Players are allowed to make a maximum of 2 sets in any variation of Rummy.

Number of Decks Used

Every deck of the card has 4 different suits, namely, Spades, Clubs, Hearts, and Diamonds. Besides these sets, each deck also has 1 joker card. That adds up to 53 cards in each deck. The number of decks used in Rummy depends on the number of players playing. Only one deck is used if 2 players are playing. But if 6 players are playing in one table, the number of decks used is 2.

Printed Joker Per Deck

When playing with one deck, the players have one joker card. But if played with two decks, two joker cards are found.

Joker Usage

Both the joker cards can be used to make sequences or sets. However, whenever a joker card is used, the sequence formed is called an impure sequence.

Table Size

Rummy offers two different types of tables. The first type is the 2-player table, which, as suggested by the name, uses only one deck and lets two players sit. The second type is the 6-player table, which deals with two decks of cards and 3, 4, or 5 players and plays here. However, in some sites, it has been found that cards are dealt with after the table is full.

Calculation Unit

Point system varies along with the different variations of Rummy. Such as, in Pool Rummy and Point Rummy, the calculation is done through points. The winner has the least points. In other cases, such as Deals Rummy, chips are calculated. The winner here has the most chips.

Drop Option

If a player feels that their cards are not up to mark and won’t help them win, they can easily drop their cards.

Initial Drop

At the very beginning of the game, players can drop their cards and get 20 points. However, Deals Rummy does not offer the chance of dropping cards if the table has only 2 players playing actively.

Mid Drop

Mid drop refers to the dropping of cards in the middle of the game. Though it is not recommended, it is allowed. Similar to the initial drop, the mid drop is not allowed in Deals Rummy if the table has only 2 players playing actively.

Maximum loss

The maximum points/chips up to which the scores can be calculated are 80.

Wrong Show or Invalid Declare

One can only declare their cards once all the sequences and sets are finished. It must be kept in mind that there must be at least one pure sequence.

2 player tables require all seats to be filled, but that is not compulsory when playing at a 6 player table.

Initially Distributed Points/Chips

This is the number of chips that are distributed at the starting of the game.

Number of Winners

In any variation of Rummy, there is only one winner.

Winning Hand
