St Kitts and Nevis Patriots
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots made it to the semi-finals on the basis of their superb start to the tournament. Had it not been for their five out of five wins in their first as many games, they’d have missed out on the playoffs and possibly finished last, such was their performances in the second hald of the round robin stages.
They won just one of their last give matches and evaporated as the tournament progressed.
The man responsible for a lot of their troubles has been their superstar Chris Gayle, who has been disappointing – to say the least – in CPL 2021 so far.
That said, nothing is still lost and they can still recover and keep their eyes on the top prize, which is to capture their maiden title.
They will take confidence in the fact that they beat Guyana Amazon Warriors by comfortable margins in both their meetings in the round robin stage.
In both those outings, the Patriots had gotten superb starts in run chase from their openers, Devon Thomas and Evin Lewis, both could again be thorns for Guyana’s bowling.
Guyana Amazon Warriors
Guyana’s playoffs spot was in uncertain midway through their campaign but they finished the round robin stage strongly, winning four of their last five, including all of their final three matches of the round robin stage to seal the final berth.
During those trio of wins they have had varied heroes, with Brandon King shining (77) against St Lucia, Nicholas Pooran playing the captain’s knock against Jamaica and Romario Shepherd rescuing the innings against Jamaica in the follow-up game.
One setback for Guyana could be the loss of their veteran allrounder Mohammad Hafeez, who has been recalled to Pakistan for national duty. In his absence, it would be up to his like-for-like compatriot Shoaib Malik to fill the void.
