Teams Status
Ireland
In the second ODI, Ireland had several players, including their captain Andy Balbirnie, missing but still managed to upset their hosts in a rain-hit encounter that worked in their favour.
The European side bowled first, dismissed the Windies for 229, thanks largely to their spin bowler Andy McBrine’s four-for.
During the run chase, the Irish were 157-4 in the 32nd over when the heavens opened up. The revised target was 168 off 36 overs, which made the task extremely easy for them. Harry Tector again scored a half-century, as he had in the series opener.
Balbirnie, Lorcan Tucker, Simi Singh, and Ben White will continue to remain missing but good thing is that Paul Stirling is back and did feature in the second ODI.
West Indies
West Indies will feel hard done by in the second ODI. At 157-4, they’d have taken their chances against the Irish but unfortunately for them, they drew the short straw and the post-DLS scenario left them with little runs to defend.
That said, most of the Windies batters had hardly wrapped themselves in glory. A bulk of their 229 runs were scored by just three batters, with Shamarh Brooks scoring 43, and most importantly, number nine batter Romario Shepherd top-scoring with 50 and number 10 Odean Smith contributing 46. Add 30 runs of extras and you are left to wonder what exactly did the other eight batters, including the entire top order did.
Talking about individuals, Nicholas Pooran has failed in both the matches and needs to step up. Roston Chase has fared a little better and needs to do more.
