Teams Status
India
After being thrashed in both their opening two games, India chose to return in some style as, against Afghanistan last night, they amassed the tournament’s highest score so far (210-2) and went on to win by 66 runs.
The victory got them off the mark but still, they are a long way to go and need plenty of things — some not in their own hands — to go their way in order to make it to the final four.
Good thing is that they finally got their misfiring batters, including their openers KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma, scoring some runs again.
The pair put on a 140 for the opening wicket and laid the foundation for their victory. The bowling still had its duds but at least one problem is resolved for outgoing captain Virat Kohli.
Scotland
Scotland are the only winless team remaining in Group 2 and considering their final two opponents, it’s fair to assume that they’d go back home empty-handed from this World Cup.
The Scots, after causing a big upset in the opening match of the opening round by beating Bangladesh, were expected to impress in the main round as well. But here, they’ve been flat, with the only positive being that they kept the match close against New Zealand and lost by just 16 runs.
For that specific match, Scotland will draw confidence from the fact that all six of their top batsmen contributed double-digit scores, which is always a good sign.
Allrounder Michael Leask, in particular, is someone to keep an eye on as he can hit the ball a long distance.
