Teams Status
England
England are one of the only two unbeaten sides lift in the competition, having beaten all three of their Group 1 opponents so far. And while Pakistan’s hot start has been much lauded, England have largely flown under the radar.
It needs to be said, however, that all three of England’s victories have been super dominant, unlike Pakistan, who had to dig deep in both of their last two wins.
Eoin Morgan’s men have annihilated West Indies, Bangladesh, and Australia one by one without breaking a sweat. Like Pakistan’s wins, England’s victories, too, have all been successful run chases, the only difference being that England’s bowlers have done such a wonderful job in each of those games that it left their batsmen practically nothing to do, evident by targets of 56, 125 and 126 they’ve had to chase so far.
Tymal Mills has been the pick of their bowlers and has clinched seven wickets in just a trio of matches, followed by Adil Rashid who has five, and a bunch of others that have four.
Sri Lanka
After starting their Group 1 campaign with an impressive win over Bangladesh, Sri Lanka have since lost their way, losing two straight Australia and South Africa.
The islanders have shown that they can beat teams below them but when it comes to punching above their weight they’ve been found wanting.
They were, however, unlucky to lose to South Africa in the last game, as they could not defend even 14 runs in the final over.
While England are the runaway leaders in the group and almost guaranteed to clinch the top spot, the second spot is still up for grabs, and even though Sri Lanka only have two points, they can gain ground with an upset win over England here.
