Chennai Super Kings
Three matches and three defeats — the title defence for Chennai Super Kings is going horribly wrong. When the batting has clicked the bowling has been below-par, and vice versa.
On the opening night they were routed by Kolkata, then lost a high scoring game to newcomers Lucknow before being thrashed by Punjab Kings.
Opener Ruturaj Gaikwad has returned scores of 0, 1 and 1 in his three outings so far and is easily the biggest liability in their line-up.
The burden of captaincy hasn’t been taken well by Ravindra Jadeja, who has taken just a single wicket in three matches.
It’s clear that something needs to change, and quickly.
Sunrisers Hyderabad
Like Chennai, Hyderabad are also winless so far, having lost both their games. That said, panic in their camp will be markedly less as Hyderabad weren’t world beaters anyway, and besides their last defeat was close.
Chasing 170 against Lucknow, Hyderabad were 143-4 with Nicholas Pooran and Washington Sundar at the crease. 27 off 15 was gettable but then Avesh Khan and Jason Holder took over for Lucknow and Hyderabad can only manage 157.
Captain Kane Williamson has yet to start firing while bowlers Umran Malik and Washington Sundar have leaked big runs. These are the main folks who need to do better.
