Teams Status
Delhi Capitals
The loser of Qualifier 1 and winner of the Eliminator game clash in the penultimate fixture of the IPL 2021.
Delhi were arguably the strongest team during the UAE leg and won four of their first five matches before two straight defeats killed their momentum.
The first of those twin losses was harmless since it came in their final match of the round-robin stage, by which time their progression to the playoffs was already confirmed.
The other defeat, though, must have stung badly. Up against Chennai Super Kings for a place in the final, the Capitals did well to post 172-5 but ended up losing, thanks to CSK legend MS Dhoni’s superb last-over hitting.
Kolkata Knight Riders
While the mood in the Delhi camp must be a bit damp, Kolkata must be flying high, thanks to their morale-boosting win over Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Eliminator match.
The star of the show was KKR bowler Sunil Narine, who took four wickets for just 21 runs, and all four were prized middle-order scalps. RCB never recovered from that damage
KKR did have their wobbles in the 139-run chase but they got there in the end, famously ending the era of Virat Kohli’s captaincy in Bangalore.
The victory capped superb runs of three wins in three, and four in five matches, which have come at the most perfect time.
