Lucknow Super Giants
Lucknow Super Giants managed to snap a run of two straight defeats in their last game, thanks to a win over Kolkata Knight Riders.
The result not only got them back on winning ways, it also helped them seal qualification for the playoffs. That said, the win could easily have been a defeat as they edged out Kolkata only by two runs.
If it wasn’t for Marcus Stoinis’ back-to-back wickets at the death when they had to defend two runs off as many balls, the result could have been very different.
Good thing for Lucknow was that their star batter Quinton de Kock was in sensational touch in the win over Kolkata, smashing an unbeaten 140 off just 70 balls. The bad news is that some of their bowlers were awful. Jason Holder leaked 45 runs in his four overs, while Avesh Khan was even more expensive, conceding 60 and going wicketless.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
Royal Challengers Bangalore have somehow managed to sneak into the playoffs and they have celebrated that quite a bit but it isn’t that the hard part is done. The title-less franchise has been here before. It’s the playoffs where they falter quite often.
They did beat league leaders and final-bound Gujarat Titans in their last game so that might have given them a boost. A dampener would be the fact that the Titans had nothing to play for in that game.
Good thing for them is that their former captain Virat Kohli is scoring runs again. He got 73 in the last game and that’s a welcome boost.
Another boost is that Harshal Patel’s stitches have come off and he is free to be picked now. However, RCB also have the option of going with Akash Deep.
