Teams Status
Chennai Super Kings
Chennai Super Kings currently sit second on the points table behind Delhi Capitals, thanks to their recent loss to the Capitals themselves.
That said, Chennai can still usurp Delhi and reclaim the top spot, if they beat Punjab in this fixture and Delhi loses their remaining game. Chennai’s superior net run rate could see them edge Delhi, in case of a points tie.
Chennai, who had started the UAE leg in brilliant form by winning four straight, have lost their way a bit recently or maybe they have taken their foot off the pedal. They are currently on a two-match losing streak, of which the defeat to top contenders Delhi was understandable but the one to Rajasthan before that was not.
Punjab Kings
Punjab Kings are one of the four teams fighting for the coveted fourth and final playoffs spot. They currently sit in fifth place but will be overtaken by one of Mumbai Indians or Rajasthan Royals, who have a game before.
Punjab have blown hot and cold since the league resumed. If they’ve won one, they’ve lost the next and vice versa. They’ve lacked consistency.
If we go by their tendency to alternate, they should win this one, since they lost their last game, which was against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
They should still be kicking at losing that last one. Chasing 165, they were 91-0 when they lost their opening wicket, of their captain KL Rahul. Of the next 55 balls, they only scored 67 more runs as the team mustered just 158 and fell short by six runs.
