Teams Status
Afghanistan
Afghanistan were expected to fare better now that they are playing the format of their liking but they were abysmal in the 1st T20I.
On a Bangladesh pitch that surprisingly did not have much help for the bowlers, the Afghans bowled first and found wickets at regular intervals but still ended up conceding 155 runs, which was still a gettable target.
It was the Afghan batters who caused their team’s demise. Their top order was singlehandedly wrecked by Bangladesh’s Nasum Ahmed, who had sent the top three packing by the third over. Najibullah Zadran (27) showed some resistance but wickets kept on tumbling around him, with Shakib Al Hasan (2 for 18) and Shoriful Islam (3 for 29) joining the party.
Captain Mohammad Nabi (16) and Azmatullah Omarzai (20) were the only other batters to get into double figures as the Afghan batting unit’s frailty got exposed yet again.
Bangladesh
Bangladesh batters had not wrapped themselves in glory either, with the sole exception being one-down batter Litton Das, whose 60 off 44 helped his side get to the respectable 155 otherwise it could have been a different kind of result for them.
Truth be told, apart from Das’ knock, there was nothing impressive about the Tigers’ batting performance. Their bowlers, however, were on top of things.
The win was very important for Bangladesh as they had won all of their previous eight matches in the format. It also gives them guarantee of not losing the series, which is only two matches long for some reason.
