Teams Status
Rajasthan Royals
Winning the toss and opting to chase has been en vogue in the IPL this season but Rajasthan are the exceptions. Three of their four wins have come batting first after all.
Since their bowling is working superbly, they often manage to restrict their opponents within whatever total they post. Trent Boult’s done well in all his four outings so far this season, and almost always picks up early wickets.
Then Yuzvendra Chahal has been immense for them, by not only picking up 11 wickets but by also being miserly, which for legspinners is unusual.
The batting has its firepower but does seem a bit top heavy, with talent falling off at an alarming rate the deeper you go.
Gujarat Titans
Gujarat Titans’ best bet against a packed Rajasthan top-order would be to find early wickets and expose their long-ish tail early.
Rajasthan have Riyan Parag coming in at number six and Ravichandran Ashwin at six – and neither inspire too much confidence. Thus, if Gujarat can run through the Rajasthan top order early, it could create an opening – probably their only opening – to spring a surprise.
Gujarat have a weakness of their own that has so far not been exploited. Two of their main overseas stars, Matthew Wade and David Miller, have looked out of sorts.
If this continues for long, they can always replaced one or both with Wriddhiman Saha, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Alzarri Joseph and Dominic Drakes.
