Chennai Super Kings
Chennai Super Kings became the new league leaders last night, thanks to their win over Royal Challengers Bangalore. They now have 14 points to their name – same as Delhi Capitals – but their much better net run rate sees them occupy the top spot.
The victory over RCB last night was CSK’s second in as many games since the resumption of the league. During the first quarter of the game, when RCB’s Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal were batting, it had seemed as if CSK will have to fight hard but all of their batters batted responsibly and swiftly in the run chase to ensure another two points for their side.
Dwayne Bravo was named the man of the match for his 3-24, which included the prized wickets of Kohli and Glenn Maxwell.
Kolkata Knight Riders
KKR have revitalized their IPL campaign since the UAE leg began with back-to-back victories. What’s even more impressive is that both their victories have come against contenders – Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians – and both have been dominant.
After bundling out RCB for 92 on Monday night, the Shah Rukh Khan-owned side restricted defending champions Mumbai to just 155 and again won comfortably.
Their bowlers have been superb over those two games, with Varun Chakravarthy and Lockie Ferguson catching in the eye in particular. They’ve also found a new hero in the form of opener Venkatesh Iyer, who has scored 41* and 53 in the first two outings of his IPL career. Needless to say, the Knight Riders are looking menacing ahead of the business end of the season.
