Teams Status
West Indies
The first two Tests followed the same pattern, with England batting first and both teams posting big totals before late collapses setting the game up for an exciting finish.
The hosts held firm on both the occasions and escaped what could easily have been defeats. Where they had to thank Nkrumah Bonner and Jason Holder’s fortitude for the 1st Test, their saviours in the second Test were captain Kraigg Brathwaite and Joshua Da Silva.
The skipper, in particular, was superb in both the innings of the second Test, first scoring a patient 160 before repeating the trick in an unbeaten 56-run knock where he went on full survival mode to save the Test.
West Indies have named an unchanged squad for the series decider.
England
England will be frustrated at seeing two winnable opportunities pass them by. Perhaps, they’ve missed the services of Mark Wood, whose pace could have come in handy in face of stubborn West Indies batting late on the last day.
The wickets so far in this series have been extremely flat, and so there have been some suggestions that captain Joe Root should replace pacer Chris Woakes with leg-spinner Matt Parkinson.
It could be a decent solution as with Ben Stokes available to bowl, Root can let go of one pacer and bring in a helping hand for Jack Leach.
