South Africa vs Bangladesh 2nd ODI Betting Tips: Expect Fierce Fight Back From Humiliated Proteas

Zohaib Ahmed, Senior Author

Few had given Bangladesh any chance of winning the first ODI but that is exactly what they did. The Tigers defied odds to go 1-0 up in the three-match series. They can wrap up the series with another win in the second ODI, which will be played at the Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg on March 20 (Sunday). The match is to begin at 1:30pm IST.

Teams Status

South Africa

After multiple highs over the past few months, South Africa suffered the ultimate embarrassment on Friday as they were beaten at home by a side that had never previously won a cricket match on their soil.

It all began with their bowlers coming out total flat. While all were at fault, the worse of them all was Lungi Ngidi who conceded an astonishing 75 runs in his 10 overs. South Africa’s lack of variety was also exposed as despite seeing their pacer getting smashed, they had no other choice.

The batters just melted at the sight of having to chase 315. Truth be told, in today’s cricket, chasing down a target in excess of 300 should not have been an impossible task but the South African top order just collapsed. If it wasn’t for Rassie van der Dussen (86) and David Miller (79), the result could have been even more humiliating.

The hosts now face the battle to save the series against Bangladesh, just a month or so after slaying India at home.

Bangladesh

On the contrary, Bangladesh were superb in pretty much all aspects of the game. The Tigers had upset New Zealand in New Zealand in a Test earlier this year and they repeated the trick again by thrashing South Africa in the series opener here.

The foundation of their victory was laid by their front three of captain Tamim Iqbal (41) and Litton Das (50) but the most important contribution was by Shakib Al Hasan, who knack of producing extraordinary innings away from home with another 77 off just 64 balls. The middle and lower order batters also did their job by chipping in with valuable runs before a Taskin Ahmed three-for and a Mehidy Hasan Miraz four-for brought the South African batting to its knees.

While the result was superb, Bangladesh also did the same in New Zealand by starting the series with the upset win before losing the next Test. They’d have to make sure to keep their game up in order to notch a historic series win.

Tipster’s Angle

Tip: Shakib Al Hasan Total Runs Over (20.5) @ 1.832

The Shakib bet worked so brilliantly in the opening match that we want to hit it again. As already explained, his away form over the past few years has been incredible. With the ball coming on the bat nicely as well, we do now see any reason why a batsman of his class won’t play another decent knock. The odds have been sourced from 22Bet.

Tip: Aiden Markram Total Runs Over (30.5) @ 1.832

While several batsmen failed for South Africa in the 1st ODI, one in particular whose reputation was rocked the most was Aiden Markram. Fans called out online how he almost always fails in crunch situations and is one of the biggest wasted potentials. We think that unless there is another difficulty run chase, Markram would perform well – if not for nothing than to erase the disgrace of a big fat zero in front of his name on the 1st ODI scorecard. The odds have been sourced from 22Bet.

Conclusion

Bangladesh were impressive in the 1st game but the second ODI will be played on a different venue. We expect a much better performance from South Africa and think that the series will be all square at the end of this game.
