Teams Status
Lahore Qalandars
In theory, second-placed Lahore Qalandars can still be surpassed by Peshawar Zalmi but in reality their fate as round-robin stage runners-up behind leaders Multan Sultans is already sealed.
For Lahore to surrender their second place, they’d have to lose to Peshawar by 110 runs, which seems pretty unlikely considering that they’ve won three of their last four.
Granted that they did lose to Karachi Kings but it was more an anomaly. Lahore have been impressive for most of their campaign barring a slip up here and there.
In their last game, they found a new hero in Harry Brook, who rescued Lahore from 12 for 3 to help post 197 for 6.
Brook’s emergence would help Lahore offset the overall loss in talent that will be felt with the departure of Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan.
Peshawar Zalmi
The equation is clear for Peshawar in their final match of the round robin stage: beat Lahore by 110 runs or more and prise away the second spot, which brings with itself a shot at direct entry into the final.
If Peshawar lose this game, they would still be in the playoffs but will just have to take a harder route to the final.
Having said that, Peshawar would feel confident about their chances of winning this one – if not by the margin required then just flat out winning. They are, after all, riding a three-match winning streak.
In their last game, they defeated Islamabad by 10 runs in a game their young and homegrown batter Mohammad Harris scored a stunning 70 and Salman Irshad claimed a three-for.
