Pakistan

Pakistan did in the second ODI what was almost unthinkable for a side with their kind of melting proclivity.

Set a mammoth 349-run target, their top order clicked beautifully, with 1st ODI centurion Imam-ul-Haq repeating the trick with another ton, while Babar top scored with a 114. Fakhar Zaman’s 67 up top can also not be forgotten.

Their bowlers were again ordinary and struggled to contain runs. The two part-time spinners, Khushdil Shah and Iftikhar Ahmed, were the biggest culprits, with both conceding runs at the rate of almost 10 an over. But then spin specialist Zahid Mahmood fared little better, with figures of 71-1. Fortunately for them, the Babar-led batting unit covered up for them later.

Pakistan’s win sets the series up for this interesting finale.

The Men in Green are currently eighth in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League standings whereas Australia are fourth.

Australia

Australian batters did nothing wrong in the second ODI as evident in their giant total of 348 but their bowlers were ineffective.

Pretty much everyone leaked runs but Sean Abbott was the worst of them all, conceding 74 runs in his nine overs.

Zampa, who had bowled so well in the opening ODI win, still picked up a pair of wickets but conceded 71 in his quota of 10.

It was Australia’s first loss against Pakistan after 16 consecutive wins in all formats. The Aussies would want to start a fresh spree immediately as any delays would see them surrender this series.

What a difference one game and one result can make. Thanks to their win last night, Pakistan are now firm favourites to win the finale as well. Parimatch has Pakistan priced at 1.60 and Australia at 2.28. Paripesa and 22Bet both have Pakistan available for 1.52 and Australia for 2.32.

Tipster’s Angle

Tip: Australia to win @ 2.32

Australia are clearly light on talent and Pakistan now have the momentum on their side. That said Australia, despite being less talented, are far less prone to meltdowns than their Pakistani counterparts. At mouth-watering odds of 2.32, we think that a play on Australia makes sense. The odds for this play have been sourced from Sportsbet.

Tip: Total runs over 547.5 @ 1.90

The Lahore strip is oozing runs and is basically a batting paradise right now. You’d have to be a pretty bad batter or in very bad form to not find runs here. This is why we expect the Total Runs bet to go Over again. The odds have been sourced from Parimatch.

Conclusion

Once again, the fate of this match and this series will depend on how Pakistan’s front three bat. They have explosive finishers coming later but it remains to be seen how the likes of Khushdil Shah and Iftikhar Ahmed would fare if Fakhar Zaman, Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam don’t lay the foundation with big runs.
