Teams Status
Rajasthan Royals:
Rajasthan Royals will enter the contest against Mumbai Indians as firm favourites as they are one of the most in-form teams in the competition, having registered six wins out of the first eight matches.
The management would be hoping that the players will continue producing similar kinds of performances in the matches to come which would help the side in securing a place in the playoffs.
In their previous outing, Rajasthan thrashed the Royal Challengers Bangalore by 29 runs.
The Royals’ success in the ongoing campaign is largely down to some outstanding performances from two individuals — opening batter Jos Buttler and leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal.
Both players are the leading run-getter and the leading wicket-taker in the competition which is why their side is extremely hard to beat.
Buttler is in the form of his life as he is comfortably the tournament’s top run-scorer with 499 runs at an average of 71.28 along with the strike-rate of 159.42, which included three centuries and two fifties.
Other than him, captain Sanju Samson (228 at 32.57 and strike-rate of 165.21), left-hander Shimron Hetmyer (227 at 56.75 and strike-rate of 171.96) and opener Devdutt Padikkal (199 at 24.87 and strike-rate of 128.38) has also made some important contributions.
In the bowling department, Chahal has 18 wickets at an outstanding average of 12.61 along with an economy-rate of just 7.09. Right-arm pacer Prasidh Krishna is second in the list with 10 scalps to his name.
Mumbai Indians:
Mumbai Indians will enter the contest against the Rajasthan Royals as a clear underdog. They are the only team to have not won a single match in the competition, suffering eight defeats in the process.
In their previous outing, the side suffered a thumping defeat by 36 runs against the newcomers Lucknow Super Giants.
Since Mumbai are already out of the contention for a spot in the playoffs, the management would be hoping that the players will finally turn up and produce a better display to break the losing streak.
Mumbai’s leading run-getter in the competition is young left-hander Tilak Varma with 272 runs at an average of 45.33 along with the strike-rate of 140.20, which included two half-centuries.
Right-hander Suryakumar Yadav is second on the list with 239 runs at 47.80 and with the strike-rate of 151.26.
With the ball in hand, four bowlers — Murugan Ashwin, Jaydev Unadkat, Daniel Sams and Tymal Mills —have managed to claim six wickets each.
