Teams Status
Lucknow Super Giants:
Lucknow Super Giants will enter the contest against Mumbai Indians as firm favourites, despite suffering two defeats in the last three matches. Despite that, the newcomers have managed to register eight points from their first seven matches.
In the previous outing, the Super Giants suffered an 18-run defeat against the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
The management will be hoping that the players will be able to bounce back from that result and produce a better display on Sunday.
Lucknow’s strength in the competition has been their batting department, especially the top-order where the likes of captain KL Rahul and wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock have been in prolific form.
Rahul has been leading the runs charts with 265 runs at an average of 44.16 along with the strike-rate of 141.71, which included a century and a fifty.
De Kock has already amassed 215 runs at an average of 30.71 along with the strike-rate of 134.37, which included a couple of half-centuries.
All-rounder Deepak Hooda has been also amongst the runs after having scored 183 runs with the help of two half-centuries at an average of 26.14 along with the strike-rate of 129.78.
In terms of the bowling department, young Avesh Khan is leading the charts with 11 wickets to his name at an average of 20.09 and with an economy-rate of 8.28.
Mumbai Indians:
Mumbai Indians will enter the contest against the Lucknow Super Giants as an underdog after having a horrendous start to their IPL 2022 campaign where they are the only team that is yet to win a single match despite having played seven times.
In the previous outing, Mumbai suffered a three-wicket defeat against the Chennai Super Kings. The management would be hoping that the players will be able to finally gain some momentum at a time when the side does not have any more room for errors.
Mumbai’s problem in this year’s IPL has been their bowling unit where no bowler has managed to claim more than six wickets. Those numbers are just not good enough for any team to succeed in a tough competition like the IPL.
In terms of batting, the team looks all right with Tilak Varma (234), Suryakumar Yadav (232) and wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan (191) contributing significantly.
However, the form of Captain Rohit Sharm will be a big concern for the management as the star batter has only scored 114 runs at an average of 16.28 in seven innings along with the strike-rate of less than 130.
