Lucknow Super Giants
Not long ago, Gujarat Titans were the hottest team in the league and were riding a multi-match winning spree. That has changed, and now it’s Lucknow Super Giants who are riding a winning streak that has currently stretched to four matches.
Since losing to Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 19, Lucknow have beaten Mumbai, Punjab, Delhi and Kolkata.
In their last game, they crushed Kolkata by a whopping 75 runs, thanks to Avesh Khan and Jason Holder’s three wickets apiece. Mohsin Khan’s addition only bolsters an already high performing bowling unit.
Lucknow batting is a bit top heavy but their top batters very rarely allow the team’s tail to be exposed.
Gujarat Titans’ impressive five-match winning streak has immediately been followed by two straight defeats, which have seen them surrender their top spot to none other than Lucknow.
Both their recent defeats have been to sides languishing low on the points table. After Punjab Kings snapped their streak courtesy a batting collapse, Mumbai Indians edged them out in a close affair.
That said, the defeat wasn’t unexpected as several of their earlier wins were very close and could have gone either way. To expect the luck to go their way every time was actually naive.
That said, another defeat, which would be their third in a row, could take a toll on their confidence.
