Teams Status
Gujarat Titans:
Gujarat Titans enter the contest against the Chennai Super Kings as firm favorites as they are one of the most in-form teams in the competition, having won four out of five matches.
The management would be hoping to see the players continue producing similar kinds of performance and help the team in securing a spot in the playoffs in their inaugural campaign. In their previous outing, Titans defeated Rajasthan Royals by 37 runs.
Titans have a very well-balanced squad comprised of players who are contributing both with the bat and with the ball.
Their batting is heavily dependent on two players where captain Hardik Pandya is leading the charts with 228 runs at an average of 76 along with the strike-rate of 136.52. Other than him, Shubman Gill has scored 200 runs at an average of 40 with the strike-rate of 152.67.
In terms of the bowling unit, pacer Lockie Ferguson is leading the charts with eight wickets at an average of 19.25. He is well supported by fellow pacer Mohammad Shami who has seven scalps to his name whereas star leg-spinner Rashid Khan has claimed six wickets with an impressive economy-rate of just 6.55.
Chennai Super Kings:
Chennai Super Kings will enter the contest against the Gujrat Titans as an underdog because of a poor start to their campaign.
After the first five matches, the defending champions have just won one match and suffered four defeats. The management would be pushing the players to put a much better display in the matches to come if they are to secure a place in the next round.
In their previous outing, the Super Kings defeated the Royal Challengers Bangalore by 23 runs.
Chennai is depending on their batting to get them over the line as their bowling is clearly struggling. In the batting unit, left-hander Shivam Dube is leading the charts with 207 runs at an average of 51.75 along with the strike-rate of 176.92.
He is well supported by veteran right-hander Robin Uthappa who has scored 194 runs at an average of 38.80 along with the strike-rate of 163.02.
In the bowling department, veteran pacer Dwayne Bravo is the only bowler to have claimed five or more wickets in the competition. He has seven scalps to his name.
