The EURO 2020 group D is almost perfectly balanced in team strength, squad depth, and team play. England, Croatia, Czech, and Scotland will battle it out for qualifying from this group. Considering the team factors we mentioned above, and it is worth saying that England looks likely to top this group, but let us analyze the group below:
At the 2018 World Cup, England was already one of the favorites. Though it was said that the English team was probably too young for great success. They had to gain more experience. This turned out to be the case, but the Three Lions nonetheless finished fourth.
Meanwhile, Gareth Southgate’s selection is two years past and marched impressively through qualifying for EURO 2020. In particular, the offense of Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling, and Jadon Sancho is impressive. With Harry Maguire and John Stones, the British also have an excellent defense. Players like James Maddison, Declan Rice, or Dele in midfield don’t have to fear other teams. Therefore, the midfield is also solid.
Even in goal, England has a world-class man between the posts in Jordan Pickford. They also have several excellent players in each position. In principle, England can only surpass themselves and are one of the favorite teams of Euro 2021.

Croatia is in a similar starting position as it was before the 2018 World Cup. The team has some excellent players in its ranks, in all positions. In midfield, for example, Inter Milan’s Marcelo Brozovic ensures order. Ivan Rakitic and Luka Modric, and Mateo Kovacic in the Croatia jersey are on this side.
Rebic, Andrej Kramaric and Ivan Perisic form the offense. Top shots like DejanLovren and Filip Benkovic stay on defense. Apart from the goal (Dominik Livakovic), Zlatko Delic’s team is good, excellent, or even world-class in all positions.
Croatia, who dominated the standings with relative ease but revealed some weaknesses in the 2018/19 Nations League, are good enough to survive the group stage in any case. Their squad depth shouldn’t be enough for great success. But this is precisely what was said about the team even before the 2018 World Cup, and the team proved its worth to all skeptics. Why shouldn’t this happen again at Euro 2021?

The Czech Republic reached the final of the European Championship in 1996 with players like Tomas Rosicky and Petr Cech. However, when that generation left, things got worse. This changed with qualification for Euro 2021. Suddenly, the former Czech Republic was seen again. The team is also equipped with at least one excellent player at each position.
Even though Wales has some Tomas Vaclik and Jiri Pavlenka fight for space between the posts. Right-back Pavel Kaderabek sets the tone on defense. Jakub Janto pulls strings in midfield. Forwards like Patrik Schick and Matej Vydra play offense.stars like Ampadu, Philips, they lack team cohesion which might be fatal for their EURO 2020 quest. We don’t see Wales going through the group stages though it will be a close call against Turkey.
This team is challenging to evaluate and, therefore, can become a formidable opponent in Group D of Euro 2021. But most likely, Czech might qualify from the group stages but will not be enough to reach the final of EURO 2020.

More recently, the Scottish national team qualified for a major tournament more than 20 years ago; back then, it was the 1998 World Cup in France. Since then, the Scots have only been spectators at all subsequent European and World Championships. But at Euro 2021, Scotland can finally play a big tournament again.
This was made possible by the European Championship playoffs, for which the Scottish national team qualified through the 2018/19 Nations League. In the semifinals of the playoffs, they showed their intense nervousness after a 0-0 victory against Israel after extra time on penalties. In the final, the Scots achieved an extraordinary sensation; they beat the clear favorite Serbia 4: 5 on penalties (1: 1 after extra time) and were able to applaud for a ticket to EURO 2020.
EURO 2020 will be an extraordinary event for Scotland. Because Hampden Park in Glasgow is also one of the venues for Euro 2021, the Scottish national team can even play their matches against the Czech Republic and Croatia in front of a home crowd. From Group D, with England, Croatia, and the Czech Republic, each of these Euro 2021 teams looks stronger than Scotland, but Steve Clarke’s side can expect a surprise at home games.

It is clear who should be group winners based solely on team strength – England cannot afford otherwise. The Three Lions have to decide all the games for themselves due to the incredible quality of their players. The question is if they want.
The game plan for the knockout phase is complicated in this regard. The winner of Group D will meet the runners-up of EURO Group F in the round of 16. In all probability, then it will be against France, Germany, or Portugal. England would have to compete with an opponent on an equal footing. If they’re only second, they could face Poland, which would be much easier.
However, the Czech Republic has more difficulty. In four of the six groups, the team would have a chance to take second place, but the team does not seem to reach that goal. Like Scotland, Eastern Europeans are probably just a decorative fixture for Group D.
