West Indies vs Sri Lanka Betting Tips

Teams Status

After successfully sweeping Bangladesh in the two match test series, West Indies will be all set for the T20I’s against Sri Lanka. Kieron Pollard will retain the captaincy for West Indies after a successful 2-0 heist against Sri Lanka in the last T20I series that they played. The management has recalled the swashbuckling opener Chris Gayle along with the veteran pacer Fidel Edwards in the squad. They look like a strong unit, which includes Nicholas Pooran, Lendl Simmons, Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Bravo and Jason Holder. They will be hoping for a bounce back from the T20I series loss against New Zealand back in November 2020. Nicholas Pooran will be the x-factor player for this West Indies side as he was in some spectacular form in the recently concluded Abu Dhabi T10.

Sri Lanka on the other hand are on the back of two test series losses against England and South Africa. They were outplayed by both these opponents and lost both the series 2-0. In the last T20I series that Sri Lanka played against West Indies, they lost both matches. The appointed captain Dusun Shanaka is yet to join the team due to a visa delay, so Angelo Mathews is named as the stand-in captain. There were some positives from the last series despite Sri Lanka losing it, as Kusal Perera and Wanindu Hasaranga were among the runs. They need to turn the tables real quick as they have been fading off lately in the last two to three years. So, most of the responsibility will be on the shoulders of the veterans Angelo Mathews and Thisara Perera.

What Do the Sportsbooks Say?

West Indies are the favorites to win the first T20I against Sri Lanka and are placed at 1.40 odds in Betway. While Sri Lanka are placed at 2.80 odds. According to the 10Cric sportsbook, West Indies are placed at 1.39 odds and Sri Lanka at 2.60. While the Bet365 sportsbook offers 1.44 odds for a West Indies win and 2.75 odds for Sri Lanka.

Tipster’s Angel

This West Indies team looks stronger than ever with the inclusion of the Universe Boss and most of their players have played the recently concluded Abu Dhabi T10. So, by considering the current form, West Indies are more likely to win.

Tip: West Indies To Win @ 1.44

In the last five head to head matches, West Indies have won four matches, while Sri Lanka have just won one match. These two fared against each other last year in a two match T20I series in Sri Lanka, which was clean swept by West Indies with very dominating performances. The last time Sri Lanka won against West Indies was way back in 2015. They achieved this feat with the likes of Tillakaratne Dilshan, Lasith Malinga and Nuwan Kulasekara in the side, but this is an entirely different outing. Sri Lanka have lost four out of the last five T20I matches including one draw. Apart from that, the West Indies team is growing stronger series by series with the inclusion of some young guns like Nicholas Pooran, Evin Lewis and Rovman Rowell. So it is more likely that West Indies will emerge victorious at 1.44 odds available at the Bet365 sportsbook.

Tip: Niroshan Dickwella Total Runs Over 18.5 @ 1.83

Despite Sri Lanka’s poor run of form, Niroshan Dickwella has been a great find at the top of the order. He has played 23 matches and has scored 429 runs at an average of 19.50. He has a highest score of 68 against South Africa in Cape Town back in 2017. In the last seven matches, Dickwella has scored 159 runs at an average of 22.71 with a highest score of 39 against New Zealand. He has over 18 runs in five of the last seven matches. In the last four away matches, he has scored over 19 runs in two matches. But this will be his first tour against West Indies. In domestic matches, he averages just under 23 in 74 matches including a highest score of 79*. So it is more likely that Niroshan Dickwella will score over 18.5 runs at 1.83 odds available at Betway.

Conclusion

The West Indies players are in some good form coming into this series after the T10 blast in Abu Dhabi. Sri Lanka on the other hand, did not have much warm-up as they haven’t played enough cricket recently. So, this fixture is slightly tending towards the West Indies.
