Multan Sultans
After seeing their unbeaten start to the season come to an end last week, Multan Sultans bounced back instantly with a win over Karachi Kings.
The Sultans took their time and had to dig deep to get this win but they eventually did – their seventh in eight matches – and are now almost certain to top the group.
Chasing 175, the Sultans were pedestrian for three quarters of their innings, laboring at 105 at the end of the 15th over. It was then that their finishers went berserk. An unbelievable 71 runs followed off the final 4.3 overs as the Sultans got to the target with three balls to spare.
The game solved another problem for the Sultans. Their captain had looked out of sorts since the league moved to Lahore but he got 76 off 56 here and banished a period of lull for him. The Sultans now don’t even need to try hard in their remaining two matches of the round robin stage as even if they lose both they’d most likely finish at the top.
Quetta Gladiators
Quetta Gladiators’ mini-revival that saw them win back-to-back matches is now officially a thing of the past as they have since lose two straight matches.
Defeats to Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar Zalmi mean that their playoff hopes now hand in balance. They have won just three of their eight matches and trail the fourth-placed Zalmi by two points, a gap that can potentially go double if Zalmi beat United tonight.
Regardless of what Zalmi do, Quetta will have to pretty much be error-free in the remaining two matches and collect all four points. Already without a number of regulars, Quetta were dealt another blow recently when Ben Duckett decided to withdraw due to personal reasons.
