Teams Status
Multan Sultans
By the time Multan Sultans take the field later tonight, their playoffs fate may already be decided. That’s because before their clash with Islamabad, Karachi and Quetta will be facing each other. If Karachi fail to beat Quetta, Multan will be through automatically, rendering their final game with Islamabad a dead rubber.
Even if Karachi win and reach parity with other three teams that with 10 points, Multan’s run rate is so high (1.192, thanks to Quetta) that they may still qualify without having to beat Islamabad tonight.
From a different perspective, a dead rubber it may be, but the match between Islamabad and Multan could potentially be a dress rehearsal for PSL final as both are the form teams right now and could very well go all the way.
Islamabad United
Islamabad have emerged as a true juggernaut after getting beat by Lahore Qalandars on the opening night of the Abu Dhabi leg. Despite missing several stars at various points, such has been the incredible strength of the capital city side that they have notched four straight wins and now sit at the top of the PSL points table.
They’ve lost just twice all season and have grown stronger and fiercer as the tournament has progressed. In their last game, they amassed a gargantuan 247-2 against a decent bowling unit of Peshawar Zalmi, sending shockwaves through the league that they are serious about capturing their third PSL title when no one team has won more than one.
It was expected that they would relent and relax a bit in their match against Peshawar last time out but the Shadab Khan-led side did not take a breather. In fact, it did more than before. Will they do it tonight? Not so likely now, as the playoffs are to begin after a day’s break anyway.
