Teams Status
Mumbai Indians:
Mumbai Indians will enter the contest against Lucknow Super Giants as an underdog, largely because of their horrible start to the campaign.
After five rounds of matches, they are the only team in the competition who are yet to win a match and are currently placed at the bottom of the league table.
After such a horrendous start, Mumbai are left with just no further room for any errors and they must start winning matches to stay alive in the race to cement a place in the next round.
The management would be hoping that the players will finally be able to turn it around and produce a positive result in the matches to come. In their previous outing, Mumbai suffered a 12-run defeat against the Punjab Kings.
Even though the side suffered their fifth consecutive defeat on April 13, the way the batting responded while chasing a mammoth total of 199 would give the fans and the coaching staff some hope going into the important phase of the competition.
For Mumbai, young Ishan Kishan is the leading run-getter in the tournament with 178 runs at an average of 44.50 along with the strike-rate of 121.91, which included a couple of half-centuries.
In the bowling department, left-arm pacer Tymal Mills is the leading wicket-taker for the team with six scalps to his name at an average of 22.66.
Lucknow Super Giants:
Lucknow Super Giants will enter the contest against Mumbai Indians as firm favourites, largely because of a good start to their maiden campaign.
After the first five matches, the newcomers are very much in the race to cement a spot in the next round after winning three of them and securing six points in the process.
The management would be hoping that the players will be able to continue producing impressive performances in the remaining matches.
In their previous outing, the Super Giants suffered a narrow three-run defeat against the Rajasthan Royals.
For the franchise, wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock is the leading run-getter in the IPL 2022 with 188 runs to his name at an average of 37.60 along with the striker-rate of 132.39, which include two fifties. He is well supported by all-rounder Deepak Hooda who has scored 155 runs at an average of 31.
In the bowling department, young pacer Avesh Khan is leading the charts with eight wickets to his name at an average of 19.75.
