Mumbai Indian started last year’s IPL campaign poorly and their start to this year’s campaign has been worse. Two defeats in two matches mean that the five-time IPL champions must now be getting worried. Their third fixture sees them take on Kolkata Knight Riders at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune on April 6 (Wednesday). The match is to begin at 7:30pm IST.

Teams Status

Mumbai Indians

Over their twin defeats to start the season with, Mumbai’s bowling has been their achilles heel. The batting has posted 170-something in both their matches which weren’t huge totals but weren’t small either.

In the first game, they allowed their 177 chased easily by some sub-par bowling in the death overs. Then, they allowed Rajasthan Royals to amass 193 in their second game, with their batting failing to match – not that you can blame them.

Daniel Sams has gone wicketless in both the games and conceded a total of 89 runs. Kieron Pollard only bowled in one of those but it’d have been better had he not, as he leaked 46 in his four against Rajasthan.Tymal Mills has been decent but consistency has generally been amiss in their bowling unit.

Kolkata Knight Riders

KKR have so far played three matches, with their sole defeat bookended by victories – one against CSK and the other against Punjab Kings.

The latter of their two wins was the more impressive one since it came against a new powerhouse of a team in Punjab Kings.

Another impressive feat is that in both their victories they have restricted their opponents to lowly totals of 131 and 137 – a clear sign that their bowlers are on top of their game.

The batters, though, are a different story. They took their time chasing CSK’s 131, and crumbled at a mere 128 against RCB. In the win over Punjab, they again did not have to do much as the target was a mere 138. Thus, the KKR batting has not truly been tested yet.

Tipster’s Angle

Tip: Mumbai to win @ 1.898

Mumbai are winless but they are not a bad side on paper. There is no denying the fact that their bowling has been lifeless in their opening matches but they still have players who can spark a winning streak any time. We think a massive statement win is in the offing here. The odds have been sourced from Paripesa.

Tip: Total runs under 345.5 @ 1.90

The last two times these two have met, they combined for a mere 314 and 294 runs. Kolkata have also not been batting confidently recently as explained above. These are two strong indications that we should bet the Under here. The odds have been sourced from Parimatch.

Conclusion

Mumbai have dominated Kolkata in IPL and boast an astonishing 22-7 advantage in head-to-head record. That’s another reason to back the faltering giants to come out of their slumber.
