Teams Status
Kolkata Knight Riders
KKR began the UAE leg of IPL 2021 with back-to-back wins before being beaten by league leaders Chennai Super Kings on Sunday that left them stuck on eight points – a haul shared by multiple teams.
That defeat aside, KKR have witnessed plenty of good things since the league resumed. In Venkatesh Iyer, they have found a star in the making, whereas Lockie Ferguson and Sunil Narine have been outstanding too.
One slight concern is the form of their captain Eoin Morgan, who has contributed scores of 7 and 8 in his two outings. In fact, he has not scored a half century in any form of T20 cricket since last year’s IPL.
Andre Russell is a big injury concern for KKR. He did his hamstring against CSK. If he is ruled out, one of Shakib Al Hassan and Ben Cutting is likely to be drafted in.
Delhi Capitals
Second-placed Delhi Capitals already have a foot in the knockout stages, thanks to their win over Rajasthan Royals. No team has not made the playoffs despite amassing 16 points, which is what they have right now.
That said mathematically speaking they do have an outside chance of elimination, however unlikely that may be.
Of their last four fixtures, all they need to do is win two, which would guarantee them two shots at the final in the playoffs.
Marcus Stoinis is out injured for Delhi. Lalit Yadav filled in for him in the last game but Sam Billings’ availability might warrant a change now.
