West Indies will host Sri Lanka for the second of three ODI’s at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua on 12th March 2021 at 19:00 IST. After a dominating display in the first ODI, the odds are still favoring the West Indies to win the match. Sri Lanka on the other hand will be looking to bounce back after losing the T20I series and even the first ODI.

Teams Status

After dominating Sri Lanka in the T20I series, West Indies have backed it up really well in the first ODI, which they won by eight wickets quite comfortably. After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Sri Lanka started off really well with a 105 run opening stand. But the West Indies bowlers pulled it back from there, with most of the bowlers chipping in with wickets. Even West Indies started off brilliantly with a 143 run stand between Evin Lewis and Shai Hope. Evin Lewis scored 65 runs, while Hope went on to score a magnificent century of 110 runs from just 133 balls. Then Darren Bravo and Jason Mohammed took West Indies home with three overs to spare. Phil Simmons is more likely to stick with the same winning combinations that won them the first ODI. All eyes will be on Shai Hope, who has been exceptional with the bat in recent times at the top of the order for the West Indies.

Sri Lanka on the other hand will be kicking themselves as they couldn’t build on the 105 runs stand set up by Dhanuska Gunathilaka and Dimuth Karunaratne. Both these players got out in their fifties and couldn’t carry on to score a big one. After the dismissals of these two in a span of just two overs, Sri Lanka was 112/2 and did not get any decent contribution apart from a quickfire 50 from Ashen Bandara. They were bundled out for just 232 runs in 49 overs, which was way below average. They just picked up two wickets which were picked by Dushmantha Chameera. Sri Lanka will be looking for a turnaround after losing the T20I series. Similar to the T20 series where Sri Lanka bounced back after losing the first match, they are more likely to do so here as well. Sri Lanka might make some changes to the playing XI and also might get in the veteran Suranga Lakmal.

In the two innings that he has played against West Indies, he has scored 67 runs at an average of 33.55, which includes eight fours at an average of four fours per match. Conclusion

Similar to the T20I series where Sri Lanka bounced back after losing the first match, they are more likely to repeat the same in the second match of this ODI series as well. West Indies will try to clinch the series in the second match itself.
