Sri Lanka vs West Indies 1st Test Betting tips 21/11/2021

Teams Status

Sri Lanka

After a gap of seven months, during which time they focused on limited-overs formats, Sri Lanka are set to return to Test cricket with a series against the West Indies at home.

The last time the Lankans were in action in the five-day format, the month was April, when they hosted Bangladesh and won the two-match series 1-0.

That win was their only one in the format at home. That said, Sri Lanka have not played much Test cricket at home anyway. This year, other than the Bangladesh series, their only home assignment was to host England, to whom they lost the series 2-0.

In the last three years, the islanders have played 11 Tests at home, losing six and winning four, with one ending in a draw.

All of this goes to show that Sri Lanka are not a dominant team at home, even though most of their visiting victors have been top teams. When matched against a team of similar caliber, they did beat Bangladesh.

West Indies

Unlike Sri Lanka, the West Indies were in action in this format as late as August when they drew a two-match home series to Pakistan 1-1.

They now return to the format they are least comfortable in, which is evident by the fact that they have won just three matches in as many years on their travels.

Two of those wins came this year when they were in Bangladesh, and clean swept their hosts 2-0.

The last time the Windies toured Sri Lanka, it was in 2015, when the Lankans won both the matches with ease.

Tipster’s Angle

Tip: Sri Lanka to win @ 1.808

Sri Lanka are far from dominant at home but the Windies are such poor travellers that the home team seems a very good option here. We’re going for a 3-way bet instead of double chance as the likelihood of the match ending in a Draw are slim. The odds have been sourced from 22Bet.

Tip: Man of the match – Praveen Jayawickrama @ 9.0

Left-arm spinner Praveen Jayawickrama took 11 wickets on debut against Bangladesh in the second Test earlier this year. The 23-year-old was sensational in both the innings as he made a fool out of the Tigers’ batters. Against the Windies, who are notoriously poor players of spin, he can again take the centre stage and maybe even take home his second straight man of the match award. The odds have been sourced from Funbet.

Conclusion

Sri Barring a surprise, the Windies should struggle on this entire tour of the Sri Lanka, especially now that the Lankans have found their feel-good factor after a decent World Cup campaign.
