Teams Status
Sri Lanka
After a gap of seven months, during which time they focused on limited-overs formats, Sri Lanka are set to return to Test cricket with a series against the West Indies at home.
The last time the Lankans were in action in the five-day format, the month was April, when they hosted Bangladesh and won the two-match series 1-0.
That win was their only one in the format at home. That said, Sri Lanka have not played much Test cricket at home anyway. This year, other than the Bangladesh series, their only home assignment was to host England, to whom they lost the series 2-0.
In the last three years, the islanders have played 11 Tests at home, losing six and winning four, with one ending in a draw.
All of this goes to show that Sri Lanka are not a dominant team at home, even though most of their visiting victors have been top teams. When matched against a team of similar caliber, they did beat Bangladesh.
West Indies
Unlike Sri Lanka, the West Indies were in action in this format as late as August when they drew a two-match home series to Pakistan 1-1.
They now return to the format they are least comfortable in, which is evident by the fact that they have won just three matches in as many years on their travels.
Two of those wins came this year when they were in Bangladesh, and clean swept their hosts 2-0.
The last time the Windies toured Sri Lanka, it was in 2015, when the Lankans won both the matches with ease.
