The third and final ODI between India and West Indies will be played on Feb 11 (Friday) at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. The match is to begin at 1:30 pm IST.

Teams Status

India

India have the series in the bag, thanks to their wins in each of the first two ODIs, which makes this one a dead rubber.

The home side has clinched the series but has yet to fire on all cylinders. In the first ODI, they had a bit of a wobble in the run chase before stabilizing and, in the second game, they managed only 237 runs while batting first.

They may not try their hardest in the final ODI as well because the series is already in the bag, which means they might inundate the playing eleven with a bunch of fringe players.

One regular who is expected to come back is Shikhar Dhawan, who has recovered from his bout with Covid. Making way for him would probably be Rishabh Pant, who deserves a rest. If that happens, expect KL Rahul to keep wickets.

If you look closely you’d find that West Indies bowlers have done a pretty decent job over the first two ODIs. It’s just that their batters haven’t matched their effort.

The Caribbean boys restricted India to just 237 in the second ODI and could not have gotten a better opportunity than that to level up the series. But their batters succumbed to India’s gentle pace and not even their spin, which usually troubles visiting teams.

The target was small but they batted at such a snail’s pace that it did more bad than good. And even then they kept on losing wickets. By the 20^th over, the scoreboard read 66-4 with Nicholas Pooran the latest man to depart.

The few positives for Windies from that game were Alzarri Joseph’s bowling (10-36-2) and Shamarh Brooks’ battling 44 off 64.
