Teams Status
England
The selectors have decided to stick with the same group of players that featured in the ODI series against Sri Lanka.
After his impressive performances in the T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka, left-arm pacer David Willey will be slotted into the playing XI for this game.
The big positive from the one-day series was opener Jason Roy and captain Eoin Morgan finding form with the bat and scoring half-centuries in the second game played at The Oval.
England’s premier batsman, Joe Root continued his excellent form with the ball and notched up consecutive half-centuries in the recently concluded ODI series played against Sri Lanka. The 30-year old will be looking to continue his purple patch with the bat against Green Shirt.
All-rounder Ben Stokes and pacer Jofra Archer are still recovering from injuries sustained during England’s winter tour of the subcontinent.
Moeen Ali, Adil Rashid, and Liam Dawson are three frontline spinners for England for this limited-overs series. Sam Curran, Tom Curran, David Willey, Chris Woakes, and Mark Wood are pacers named in the ODI squad.
Uncapped pacer George Garton has been retained in the setup despite not playing any game against Sri Lanka this summer.
Pakistan
On the other hand, Pakistan will be looking to kick-start their tour on a positive note. The side by Babar Azam will need to adjust to the conditions in a bid to compete with a formidable team like England
The visitors have suffered a setback as middle-order batsman Haris Sohail has experienced discomfort in his right leg. Left-hander has been ruled out of the opening game of the series against England.
Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq will be designated openers for Pakistan for this limited-overs series. Babar Azam, wicket-keeper Mohammad Rizwan, and Shadab Khan will make up the middle-order for the side.
If management decides to add a specialist batsman, then Saud Shakeel would come in place of Haris Sohail.
The All-rounder duo of Faheem Ashraf and Shadab Khan is expected to add value to the side with bat and ball.
Haris Rauf, Shaheen Afridi, and Hasan Ali will be frontline pacers for this opening counter.
