Teams Status
Bangladesh
The series is already decided, which renders this a dead rubber, which are always painful to watch, difficult to write on but can still be made money on so here we are.
The bowlers have been the decisive factor in every match of the series so far, including the last one where Nasum Ahmed and Mustafizur were instrumental in getting Bangladesh the win that clinched them the series prematurely.
Same could, or rather should, be the case in the final match of the tour.
With the result of this match being inconsequential, Bangladesh are expected to rest Shakib Al Hasan, Nasum Ahmed, Mustafizur and Mohammad Saifuddin as the T20 World Cup just around the corner. In their absence, some mof Shamim Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Afif Hossain and Nurul Hasan could be drafted in.
New Zealand
The tour may be ending but New Zealand’s tour of the subcontinent still has another leg to go. Up next are Pakistan and so the Kiwis will have one eye on that series, with this one having already ended.
They are certain to get much better and batting friendly wickets than they got in Mirpur but some sort of inner improvement will also have to be made as all of what happened in this series can’t be blamed on the surface.
In the dead rubber, they’d have to practice to value their wickets more, especially Finn Allen, Tom Latham and Henry Nicholls – all of whom threw away their wickets cheaply in the last game.
Will Young has shown promise this series. Good things could be expected from him in the tour-ending match.
