Teams Status
Gujarat Titans:
Gujarat Titans will enter the contest against the Mumbai Indians as a firm favourite, largely because they are the only team in the campaign to have virtually cemented their berth in the playoffs.
As things stand, the newcomers have already secured 16 points in just 10 matches which included eight wins and just two defeats.
In their previous outing, the Titans suffered a surprising eight-wicket defeat against the Punjab Kings and therefore, the management would be hoping for a much better show from the players in the match on Friday.
In the previous match, Titans’ batting for once failed to deliver which cost the side in the eventual outcome.
Captain Hardik Pandya continues to be the leading run-getter for the franchise with 309 runs at an average of 44.14 and with the strike-rate of 132.05, which included three half-centuries.
Other than him, South Africa’s veteran left-hander David Miller (287 runs at an average of 57.40 and with the strike-rate of 145.68) and young Shubman Gill (269 runs at an average of 26.90 and strike-rate of 137.94) have also been amongst the runs.
In the bowling department, right-arm pacer Mohammad Shami is the leading wicket-taker for the franchise with 15 scalps to his name at an average of 21.53.
Mumbai Indians:
Despite winning their last match, Mumbai Indians will enter the contest against the Gujarat Titans as an underdog, largely because of their horrendous IPL 2022 campaign.
After playing nine matches, they are the only team to have no chance to qualify for the next phase after winning just one and losing eight in the process.
The management would be hoping that the players will be able to keep the momentum going after securing their maiden win in the previous outing against the Rajasthan Royals.
The side’s leading run-getter in the tournament is young left-handed batter Tilak Varma who has scored 307 runs at an average of 43.85. He is well-supported by experienced Suryakumar Yadav who has scored 290 runs at an average of 48.33 with the strike-rate of 147.20.
Mumbai’s bowling department remains the primary cause of concern for the management as no bowler has managed to claim more than 10 wickets. Australia’s left-arm pacer Daniel Sams is leading the wickets charts with seven scalps to his name.
