Teams Status
Gujarat Titans
On paper, Gujarat Titans is a newbie franchise but the players they have accumulated pack a ton of talent and IPL experience. Thus, it won’t be surprising if they impress from the get-go.
Their captain is star allrounder Hardik Pandya, who was surprisingly let go by Mumbai Indians. Meanwhile, they are coached by Ashish Nehra, who recently said that the franchise has its eyes on the top prize from year one.
Their ace in the bowling department will be Rashid Khan, whose personal form will be directly proportional to his team’s fortunes.
Lucknow Super Giants
The Super Giants, during the player draft, tried to retain an Indian core – a recipe that has worked brilliantly for some and not so well for others.
One problem ahead of the tournament openers is that they will be missing several players. An untimely elbow injury has ruled out England pacer Mark Wood for the entire tournament. Australia’s Andre Tye has been drafted in as his replacement but the loss of quality is obvious.
Also unavailable will be the trio of Marcus Stoinis, Jason Holder and Kyle Mayers – all of whom are with their respective national sides.
Super Giants’ biggest punch comes from their front two of KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock – both world class batters and no strangers to this platform.
