Delhi Capitals are one of the four franchises that sit just outside the playoff spots waiting for any let-ups from teams up above so they could usurp them. They have eight points to their name and currently occupy the sixth spot but they have the best NRR in the league and that could give them a huge potential edge in the playoff race. But first, they’d have to accumulate more points, standing next in their way are the high-flying Lucknow Super Giants, whom they meet at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on May 1 (Sunday). The match is to begin at 3:30am IST.

Teams Status

Delhi Capitals

Delhi have four wins and as many defeats in their eight fixtures. They have had their moments but also struggled for consistency all season, often alternating between victories and defeats.

Their inconsistency is reflected in the fact that they have yet to string together successive victories this season.

They did beat Kolkata Knight Riders in their last game though, although it wasn’t the most convincing of the wins. It also needed a clutch 33 off 16 by Rovman Powell in an easy run chase made difficult.

Lucknow Super Giants

While Delhi search for consistency, Lucknow on the other hand have had no such problems in their debut campaign. In fact, even right now they are on a two-match winning streak, having beaten Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings in their last two games.

They did a brilliant job of successfully defending just 153 against Punjab Kings, thanks to some stifling bowling by Krunal Pandya, who picked up a pair of wickets in his four overs but more importantly he gave away just 11 runs.

That said, most of their batters – apart from Quinton de Kock (46) and Deepak Hooda (34) – had failed and if it wasn’t for those two, the team would not have had a 100 runs on the board. It’s something for Lucknow to keep an eye on for the future.

In terms of odds, there is very little to choose between these two sides. Parimatch has both Lucknow and Delhi available at pick ’em odds of 1.90, whereas Paripesa has both the sides priced at 1.96. Lastly, Sportsbet has Lucknow available for 1.94 and Delhi for 1.87, which is a tad surprising considering the teams’ respective positions on the points table.

Tipster’s Angle

Tip: Delhi Capitals to win @ 1.96

This tip is purely about the edge Delhi have in their batting. Granted that they’ve not had results go their way always but even then their batting unit is more talented and appears more balanced with options appearing anywhere. Lucknow, on the other hand, seem to be a bit top heavy and very reliant on de Kock and KL Rahul. We’re going to go with Delhi here. The odds have been sourced from Paripesa.

Tip: Deepak Hooda total runs under 19.5 @ 1.87

Deepak Hooda got 34 in the last game but it took him 28 balls to get to that score before he was run out. In all, he has scored 227 runs all tournament, which is not too bad but is not too great either. Furthering our suspicions of a failure is the fact that he scored a slow 11 off 13 when these teams last met earlier this month. We see him contributing less than 19.5 runs in this game. The odds for this play have been sourced from Parimatch.

Conclusion

This is a difficult call to make but we see Delhi as having a slight bit of edge, thanks to their batting but also because of them having an in-form Kuldeep Yadav in their playing eleven. The man has 17 wickets to his name and sits second on the tournament’s wickets chart. This play can also go haywire so whatever you do, tread lightly.
