Teams Status
Chennai Super Kings:
Chennai Super Kings will enter the contest against Delhi Capitals as an underdog, largely because of their standings on the league table with just six points after 10 matches.
In the previous outing, the reigning champions suffered a 13-run defeat against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
That result pushed the side on the brink of elimination and the team management would be hoping to see the players produce a much better display in the remaining matches to have any hopes of securing a place in the playoffs.
In the batting department, Chennai’s leading run-getter is right-hander Ruturaj Gaikwad with 265 at an average of 26.50 along with the strike-rate of 134.51.
He is well-supported by the veteran duo of Ambati Rayudu (256 runs at an average of 32 along with the strike-rate of 129.29) and Robin Uthappa (229 runs at an average of 25.44 along with the strike-rate of 139.63).
In the bowling department, veteran pacer Dwayne Bravo is leading the wickets chart with 14 scalps to his name whereas left-arm pacer Mukesh Choudhary and off-spinner Maheesh Theekshana have claimed 11 wickets each.
Delhi Capitals:
Delhi Capitals will enter the contest against the Chennai Super Kings as slight favorites as they are still very much in the race for a place in the playoffs after having 10 points from 10 matches.
The management would be hoping to see the players producing a more consistent display in the matches to have a chance of making it to the next round. In the previous outing, the Capitals secured a 21-run win against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Delhi’s batting in the IPL 2022 has been heavily relying on the veteran opener David Warner who is the franchise’s leading run-getter with 356 runs at an average of 59.33 with the strike-rate of 156.82, which included four half-centuries.
Other than him, captain Rishabh Pant (260 runs at an average of 32.50 and strike-rate of 150.28) and opener Prithvi Shaw (259 runs at an average of 28.77 and strike-rate of 159.87) have also made some notable contributions.
In the bowling department, left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav is leading the wickets charts with 18 wickets to his name at an outstanding average of 15.71 and economy-rate of 7.85.
