Teams Status
Perth Scorchers
Two rivals whose paths often cross at this point in BBL meet again, with the reward on offer being a berth in the final.
Both the sides are three-time champions and often when they meet there is little to choose between them.
That said, Perth have enjoyed an edge on Sydney this year. Not only did they top the round-robin stage, but they also won both their matches with Sydney.
Perth have also received a twin timely boost, with Jhye Richardson and Laurie Evans both available for selection. They now have a clean bill of health and are perfectly placed for the playoffs.
Sydney Sixers
While the Scorchers are getting key players back for such a crucial game, the same was not the case with Sydney Sixers, who were not allowed to pick their star international Steve Smith.
The former Australia captain is fit, in Melbourne and the Sixers have a spot open on their roster since England’s James Vince left, but were still barred from picking Smith due to a new rule that has been “really disappointing” for Sixers skipper Moises Henriques.
But the two-time defending champions should cope with Smith as they have done all season. After all, without him, they piled up 178 against Brisbane Heat in their last game.
