Teams Status
Melbourne Renegades
Melbourne Renegades once again dwell at the bottom of the BBL points table, thanks (or no thanks) to their single victory in three outings. Mind you, this is the side that has finished last the last two campaigns.
The Renegades had actually started the campaign with a victory, albeit a slim one over Adelaide Strikers. They then lost to the same opposition in the very next game before being beaten again in their next game – this time by Brisbane Heat.
Their frail batting has, however, received a big and timely boost, with uber-experienced Aaron Finch declared fit after missing the first three games due to a knee injury.
Meanwhile, Fast bowler James Pattinson is nearing full fitness, although it remains to be seen if he’d be fit for this game. Shaun Marsh is definitely out for this game and the next, at least.
Perth Scorchers
Making this a top versus bottom clash are Perth Scorchers, who have been flawless so far this year, winning each of their first four matches.
Last year’s finalists have scorched Brisbane Heat, Adelaide Strikers, and Hobart Hurricanes (twice). Apart from their first win, the other three have not even been close, which should be a cause of concern for the rest of the league.
The foundation of their quartet of wins has been laid by veteran pacer Andrew Tye – who currently tops the bowling chart with 10 wickets to his name – and newfound gem Kurtis Patterson, who has yet to contribute a single-digit score in four outings and was superb in his 78-run knock in the last game against Hobart.
