Brisbane Heat
When Brisbane Heat were in action the last time, they snapped a run of two straight defeats and notched their maiden win of the season.
That sole win of theirs came against Melbourne Renegades, and allrounder James Bazley played a prominent role in it, breaking the back of Melbourne batting with three top-order wickets. He also chipped in with a useful 16 during the run chase.
Apart from Bazlay, Sam Heazlett impressed again with an unbeaten 44 off 29. The leftie batter has now scored decent runs in all three games this season and is easily his side’s most consistent performer.
The last match’s win got them to open their account but they still dwell towards the bottom of the table, with only the Renegades below them.
Sydney Thunder
Sydney Thunder were impressive in their season opener, beating none other than Brisbane Heat in that game. However, since then, the Thunder have lost their way and lost back-to-back games to Melbourne Stars.
In their first defeat to the Stars, they fell agonizingly short by just four runs, whereas, in the next defeat, their target of 152 was easily chased down by the Stars.
Like Heazlett for Brisbane, one man who has stood out for the Thunder over the first three matches is middle-order batter, Alex Ross.
The right-handed batsman has two half-centuries in three outings and has yet to be dismissed in the tournament. He was the player of the match when the Thunder had chased Brisbane’s total of 140 in their first match of the tournament.
